Polymer Clay
Polymer clay is a versatile modelling clay that is based on the polymer polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It can be used to make all sorts of decorative and functional items, like jewellery, dishes, figurines, pots and many more. Polymer clay can be cured in your home oven as it is nontoxic. Once the items are baked, they are very strong and somewhat flexible. Learn how to condition, roll, cut, print and shape polymer clay into a myriad of objects.
Op Art
Op Art or Optical Art is an abstract style of art based on creating optical illusions using lines, rhythm and movement. These creative works often look as though they are moving, blurring or coming alive. Sometimes what you first see morphs completely into something else. Although some works can look quite complicated there are actually simple steps with a clear end objective which can create quite stunning, mind bending creations.
Zentangle
Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. We call these patterns, tangles. You create tangles with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves and orbs. Create mugs, pots, coasters, jewellery and any number of stunning objects.
Macramé
A versatile form of fibre art, macramé or knotting can be used to make everything from wall hangings and plant hangers to jewellery, purses, and even clothing items. Using simple materials like cotton twine, jute, hemp, or yarn, macramé can be as simple or complex as the crafter would like. Embellishments like glass or wooden beads, as well as dyed threads, can also open up a range of creative possibilities.
Amigurumi
Amigurumi is the Japanese word which describes small knitted or crocheted stuffed toys, often in the shape of characters, animals, mini foods, household objects and scenery. It comes from the two root words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted and nuigurumi, which means stuffed doll. Learn to create your own little friend with this easy and fun craft.

Why Craft?
Crafting connects us to tradition, teaches us new skills and gives us a sense of accomplishment, as well as being thoroughly enjoyable, relaxing and creative. But did you know that studies have shown there are multiple therapeutic benefits as well? Regardless of the type of medium you choose, crafting can IMPROVE YOUR MOOD, ENHANCE SELF-CONFIDENCE and LOWER STRESS. Further research has established that creative pursuits can INCREASE MENTAL AGILITY, IMPROVE both GROSS and FINE MOTOR MOVEMENTS and DECREASE COGNITIVE DECLINE. In fact, crafting has been shown to be a NATURAL ANTI-DEPRESSANT. Studies show that those suffering from PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, insomnia and chronic pain have had a reduction in symptoms.
Why is that?
When engaging in craft your focus is centred on the task at hand. You are able to detach yourself from the concerns of day to day life, stimulating the ‘feel good’ hormone dopamine. In other words, engaging in craft enables us to escape our every day stress and enjoy ourselves for a time. Who doesn’t love the sound of that?
Throw in the additional benefits of social time with friends and you have yourself a fun and valuable class!
Welcome!
I am a Home Economics & English teacher with over 30 years experience. One of my passions is to pass on my skills in craft to the next generation, teaching them to create something beautiful using their imagination from resources they have around them.
My desire with Creative Hearts & Hands is to create a multi-generational hub where the younger generation can learn from the older generation and vice versa. A place where people can tap into their creative side and experiment together. A place to build connection where social issues like loneliness, anxiety and depression can be eased through a creative outlet.
My team & I look forward to meeting you and assisting you in learning a new skill and providing a space for some hard earned stress relief. Stay in touch by following us on Facebook or Instagram and we will let you know about all of our up and coming classes.
I hope you can join us!
